Why Test for lipoprotein a? (€75)

Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a type of cholesterol particle and a significant genetic risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Unlike standard cholesterol markers, Lp(a) levels are largely determined by your genes and remain relatively stable throughout life. This means that even individuals with a healthy lifestyle and normal cholesterol levels can still have an elevated risk.

Importantly, Lipoprotein(a) is not routinely included in standard GP blood tests, meaning many people are unaware of their levels. Testing Lp(a) is simple and typically only needs to be done once. Identifying an elevated level allows for a more personalised approach to managing cardiovascular risk.

This test is also included in our ‘Heart Health’ panel.
